Water Purifcation is the process of removing undesirable
chemicals, biological contaminants, suspended solids and gases
from contaminated water and makes it more acceptable for a
specifc end-use. The end use may be drinking, industrial water
supply and medical use
The method of purifcation includes physical processes like
fltration, sedimentation and biological processes such as sand
flters or carbon flters, chlorination and the use of Ultra Violet
radiation.
The purifcation process of water may reduce the concentration
of contaminant matters including suspended particles, bacteria,
algae, viruses, fungi and also dissolved solids.
Sand filter
Sand fltration is a process in which the treatment of the water is realized by
the 'porous' nature of a sand layer which traps particles present in water.
Sand flters are widely used in water purifcation and remove suspended
matter by a completely different mechanism. A sand flter, makes use of sand
to filter water. The water to be purifed slowly sinks through the sand of the
sand filter, leaving the dirt particles from the water behind in the fine pores of
the sand. The unfiltered water is distributed in the top of the sand flter and
will slowly sink through the filter bed. This flter bed consists of sand, gravel
or another filter medium. The small pores ensure that the dirt particles are
not able to pass through and retain the dirt particles.
Activated Carbon Filter
The Activated carbon Filters are designed to remove free chlorine, organic
matter, odor and Color present in the raw water and waste water. Due to its
high degree of micro porosity, activated carbons provide a huge surface area.
Activated carbon filter operates through adsorption. Adsorption is directly
related to the surface area of the media. This great surface area furnishes a
huge adsorption area for organic as well as chlorine molecules to attach
themselves. Various grades of carbon are available for specialized treatments.
Iron Removal Filter
The Iron Removal Filters are designed to remove the Excess Iron content
present in the Water. Iron can often be detected visibly in water or by staining
on plumbing fixtures. Iron filtration systems operate on the principal of
oxidizing the iron (oxidation) to convert it from a ferrous (dissolved or
soluble) to a ferric or undissolved state. Once the iron is converted to ferric
state, it is precipitated on a filter bed.
Water Softening Filter
The presence of excess minerals such as calcium and magnesium make water
hard. Hard water leads to a variety of problems such as foul plumbing,
Scaling, galvanic corrosion, dry skin, and brittle hair. Hard water is converted
into soft water by exchanging hard salts of calcium and magnesium with
sodium using an ion-exchange process. This is done with the help of resin
beads charged with sodium salts, which attract hard salts and convert them
into soft salts.
Ultra Filtration (UF)
Ultrafiltration (UF) is a type of membrane filtration in which hydrostatic
pressure forces a liquid against a semipermeable membrane. Suspended
solids and solutes of high molecular weight are retained, while water and low
molecular weight solutes pass through the membrane.
Multigrade Filter
Multigrade filter is a depth filter that makes use of coarse and fine media
mixed together in a fixed proportion. This arrangement produces a filter bed
with adequate pore dimensions for retaining both large and small
suspended particles.
Reverse Osmosis is the most effective method of reducing
higher TDS and removing 90% to 99% of salt contents. Reverse
Osmosis can remove dissolved salts and is used in both
industrial processes and the production of portable water,
compared to other salt removal technologies, it is relatively
